2014 EDBA Open/Barbecue: May 10-11

Date: May 10 – 11, 2014

Location: W.P. Wagner High School

This year, the EDBA Open tournament will be combined with a Saturday afternoon barbecue.

Individual events are doubles only – mens doubles, ladies doubles, and mixed doubles – and will have an A and B event. Winners of the first round advance in A, while losers of the first (and second) round will advance to the B event (also an elimination event to the B finals).

The A event will be played with feather shuttlecocks (preliminary rounds – Victor Tourney 77; semi-finals and finals Victor Master 77). The B events will continue after round one with plastic shuttlecocks (Yonex 300) until the B finals.

This year, besides individual event prizes, there will also be a team prize awarded to the top club overall. All players are invited to attend as representatives of their club. There is no limit to the number of individuals from one club that can enter. The team prize will be awarded to the club with the lowest top placement (best result) combined total in each category. For example, a club with a 3rd place in men’s doubles, 2nd place in women’s double and 1st place in mixed doubles (3 +2 +1 = 6) would beat the club with 2nd place in men’s doubles, 1st place in women’s doubles but their best mixed doubles team came in 4th place (1+2+4 = 7). In the event of a tie, the greater differential between total points for and against will count towards the tiebreak.

Cost for the event will be $30 for one event, and $45 for both events (doubles and mixed). Included in the fee is a tournament t-shirt, plus a food and beverage ticket to the barbecue.

There will be a barbecue (hotdogs/hamburgers) offered on Saturday afternoon 5:00 PM upon completion of play the first day, and will be a nominal fee ($2 food tickets/$1 beverage tickets) for all non-competitors. There will also be draws for prizes for the barbecue.
